Era of Women Power

There was a time when women were regarded as the most ignorant class in this society. They were used to be tortured & used mentally & physically. Women were even denied to have scholarly education.

But in last few centuries we can find that woman power is increasing. In this country on many occasions women have shown the male dominated society that they are no less in any field. Sister Nibedita, Begam Rokeya, Mother Teresa, Indira Gandhi & so on were the torch-bearers who encouraged women to lead an independent life in this nation & showed the level of woman power. The fire got ignition with the support of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Sarat Chandra Chattopadhya, Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar etc who realized the real power of the Indian women.

Now a days, the sense of equality between men & women have seeped in at least in the minds of literate people if not the whole society. Today India is full of women talent in various aspects. Administration, sports, entertainment, media, business world & everywhere women are making miracles. Countless Indian women are now famous worldwide. Pratibha Patil, Mayawati, Mira Kumar, Sonia Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee are renowned names who are ruling over the administrative sections. Women like Kiran Bedi are inducing threat in the mind of corrupt people. P.T Usha, Kunjarani Devi, Sania Mirza, Saina Nehwal are the renowned sports personalities. Our entertainment world is worthless & spice-less without famous women celebrities. Sarojini Naidu, Arundhuti Roy, Anita Desai, Lata Mangeshkar, Aparna Sen, Priya Jhingan, Harita Kaur Deol, Punita Arora, Kalpana Chawla, Bachendri Pal & others are making Indians proud all over the world in their fields of talent.

Women are giving challenges to men these days. In education system the percentage of pass among girls are getting higher every year. Women can be described as all rounders because not only are they home makers but also successful personalities in corporate world. The very common words ‘behind a successful man there is a woman’ is true in every angle. In every phase of life they are playing their roles perfectly.

However, there is a part of this society who think that women are of no use in this country. They are a burden for a family & nothing more than that. Till date women are being tortured cruelly & are forced to die at a young age. Female infanticide is a burning issue. These heinous activities are the result of illiteracy. Incidents like these need to stop immediately and people who indulge in such crime should be dealt in a severe manner.

Rising power of women is the indication of the fact that the time is not far away when women will rule the world as it happened in the ancient times.

RECENT TRENDS IN TELEVISION

Can you imagine a world without television? No serials, no news channels or no cricket matches. Will it not be a boring world? In present times television has become an integral part of our regular lives. Your mother might get angry or disturbed while she is watching her favourite soap opera.

Experiments in television broadcasting were initiated during the 1920s in the United States and Europe. This invention used a mechanical scanning disc that did not scan a picture rapidly enough. In 1923, however, came the invention of the iconoscope, the electric television tube. The invention of the kinescope or picture tube, the electronic camera and TV home receivers arrived in rapid succession during the next few years and by the 1930s, the National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) had set up a TV station in New York, and BBC a TV station in London, offering regular programmes. Germany and France too established television stations around the same time. Television broadcasts started in India under All India Radio (AIR) on 15th September 1959 as an experiment.

The contemporary media of communication, based on electronics have set in motion a continuing process of change which is having a deep impact on the mind set and attitudes of the present day society. The electronic media like television have ushered in revolutionary changes in the society as never before.
Digital television is finally here. After one false start, the government has designated June 12 as the next final deadline for turning off ‘over the air’ transmission of analog signals. While this change has caused a lot of upheaval among TV viewers, there are lots of good industry reasons for converting from analog to digital mode. Better management of the airwaves, more programming opportunities and possibly new revenue streams – in addition to the improved picture quality that all will enjoy.

Almost every major newspaper in India owns at least one television channel. The Bennett Coleman & Co.Ltd. /Times of India Group, the country’s largest chain of newspaper has Times Now, ET Now, Movies Now and a lifestyle channel Zoom. The publisher of India Today and a host of American/European magazines, such as Cosmopolitan, Vogue and Men’s Health, own a bouquet of news channels: Headlines Today, Aaj Tak and Delhi Aaj Tak. Political parties like The National Hindu Party, the BJP, the Marxists of Kerala, the DMK and the AIADMK of Tamilnadu, the Congress Party in Kerala and even the Catholic Church have followed suit, launching their own channels to propagate their own ideologies.

Television news channels and news bulletins receive the biggest patronage where soft advertising is concerned. In 2006, the news bulletins obtained the highest patronage (56.2 million) or 18% share of total in-content advertising across all media genres, including feature films (16%), music shows (9%), soaps/drama (8%) and film songs (5%).

The digital television market is growing, with the number of liquid crystal display (LCD) based digital televisions growing at 22% CAGR. More recent forecasts show growth in 2010 of 6% over 2009’s 1% decline. The big question for digital television is, ‘what is the next breakout technology?’ According to Display Search, advanced technologies like LED back light, 3D, and higher rates will be driving explosive growth for LCD televisions over the next few years. Other factors coming into play are the on-going economic pressure to lower costs and the ‘green’ movement towards lower power.

Thus, in this age of internet, television has been constantly reinventing itself as a medium. One of the disadvantages of TV as a medium is delayed feedback. On the other hand, internet is all about interactivity. So to cope up with this and establish itself as a great medium, television has to search for new ways to become interactive.

A lesson learnt!

Whenever I feel disappointed with myself, I always recall this story:

Once there was a boy named Jamie, he was a regular schoolkid. One day, in an annual function in his school.. he wanted to participate in a play really bad. He practiced hard for his roles and had his whole heart into it. However, his mother knew that he won't get selected. The auditions were held and results announced. Little Jamie all excited rushed up to his mother and told her " Mommy, I have been selected for sitting in the audience and clap and cheer for them!".

This short story has given me a lesson for a lifetime. Although, Jamie did really wanted to act in the play, not being selected didn't made him lose his confidence. He was still positive, happy and satisfied with what all he got.

Sometimes, things don't go the way we plan them. Sometimes things don't go our way, whenever this happens, say this to yourself- "Things would get better, I would make them better." Boost up your self confidence, smile and then see the positivity around you.

Yes, I admit, there always comes a point in life where the roller coaster ride of life is not so enjoyable but also remember life isn't a fairytale, there would be no fairy godmother coming to help us and solve all our problems. We need to help ourselves to win this game of life! No one could solve our problems better than us. Instead of mourning, sitting all gloomy, crying and ranting.. promise yourself to make things work out because this is no fairy tale.

Life isn't a bed full of roses, there would be thorns too and if you do not know how to cut the thorns you would bleed!

So believe in yourself, take your own responsibility and being all positive bring out the change you want to see!

Musings on Life

In this fast paced world news is happening every moment. Views originating about a particular event is also free-flowing. There is not a single moment to lose because every moment is precious. However, amidst this rat race of twenty-first century fine human qualities are somehow taking a back seat. Basic human qualities of compassion, love and fellow-feeling are not finding much expression. Hatred is rampant, jealousy is the order of the day and trust find no takers. People are increasingly getting depressed with their own lives and looking at the successful as potential enemies. The desire to lead a dream life is turning nightmare for many. Now one can find a gentleman or a gentle lady in their external demeanor, but underneath they lack gentleness. Relationships are increasingly becoming interest oriented and interests are breaking them as well.
Things have gone to such an extent that when somebody does something good people become busy finding how he or she managed it ( taking short cut methods) and not pondering how hard he or she tried for it. However, this does not undermine the fact that many crooks are also operational everywhere through their capture over resources and human minds. In fact in the present day world order truth has a new meaning.

The other name of life is hope. There are people who rise above the rest to look at the world with fresh pair of eyes. In this section I will introduce one such person who finds inspiration from small events. She looks at the world through her eyes and motivates herself and her readers to hang on and be positive. Here she tells about a lesson learnt...

Special Guest Column of the Month

Film Review: CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER.

There seems to be a continuous stream of super-hero movies at the moment and if I'm perfectly honest I'm getting a little bored. Yes, they're all different superheroes and they all have different powers but essentially the plot lines are all the same. Bad guy emerges. Ordinary man suddenly turned into superhero. Superhero saves world. Life goes on. This is why I was so surprised that I was actually really looking forward to the release of Captain America. I had no idea who Captain America was or what he could do but from the minute I watched the trailer I knew this was a movie I had to see. Admittedly I just wanted to see that one scene where Chris Evans steps out of the machine transformed from a puny, little guy into a tall, muscular, lean, mean, fighting machine. It truly was one of the most spectacular things I've ever seen. I actually googled the movie to see if there was another actor portraying the skinnier Steve Rogers and I was stunned that there wasn't another actor or even a stunt double, it's all CGI! I was incredibly impressed by the smooth transition, but also the fact that the muscles are real. There are no effects used after the transformation so I think Chris Evans deserves a round and applause ladies and gentlemen, god knows how many hours he put into toning that physique!

The story revolves around Steve Rogers, a man desperately wants to do his bit for the country by fighting in the war, the only problem is, he was born into a body that simply wasn't made for fighting. Although his body is frail and weak, his mind and his heart are determined and thankfully for Steve the right people see this in him. Thus begins his transformation from Steve Rogers to Captain America. Some say that when this movie starts to go downhill when the action begins, but I don't think this is true. There are enough high powered leaps and shots fired without going over the top and they make your heart beat just that little bit faster.

The accents in this movie are superb. I've often found that a really good movie can be spoiled when just one character speaks with a terrible accent, thankfully, that is not a problem here. Hugo Weaving and Toby Jones do a particularly good German-English accent and I thought it was very convincing. There are some British actors used in this movie which was good to see, not only because it meant diversity in the cast but also because it showed that the US and the UK were united in the war.

On the whole I found this movie quite believable, many a time I have found myself chuckling throughout a superhero movie because it's just so ridiculous, perhaps it is because Captain America is set in the 1940s during the war which was an actual historical event as opposed to a completely made up story. Also there was nothing silly like a spider bite involved, instead he was injected with what were essentially super steroids, which I'm sure will be invented at some point in the future. One thing that annoyed me a little was that when Schmidt's (arrogant bad guy trying to destroy the world) troops saluted him they said 'Hail Schmidt!' and proceeded to raise both arms in the air, presumably to mimic Hitler's Nazis; however, the effect was rather melodramatic and silly (why on earth would you raise both arms?!).

I was quite impressed by the bunch of actors used in this movie, most of them are not only quite high profile actors but are very talented too. In fact, I think all of the actors are fairly famous. Here are a couple names: Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Sebastian Stan, Tommy Lee Jones, Hugo Weaving, Dominic Cooper, Richard Armitage, Stanley Tucci, Toby Jones and Neal McDonough. If you haven't heard of any of those people then you need to watch more movies! ... Or maybe I need to get out more...

Towards the end of the movie as the action dies down the romance is dialled up. Well, every superhero needs a lady! The thing that bothers me about the romance between Captain America and Peggy Carter is that they don't spend a lot of time in each others company, they never go out on a date, but they're completely smitten. I did; however, still think that the ending was incredibly heartbreaking. Speaking of the ending, it was terrible.  The ending made me extremely angry and it was very unexpected, but not in a good way. I guess you could praise the script writer for creating such an unanticipated end to the movie; however, I feel that it left many loose ends, there wasn't enough detail, and things simply did not turn out how I wanted them to!

Overall, I thought that this was a very good movie with plenty of action and there's a good plot. It's quite fast paced, but not so fast that you get left behind; the romantic aspects generated a few 'aww's so I guess that was a job well done and there are even a couple of funny moments which make the movie lighter and more enjoyable. Apart from the ending, which I was very disappointed with, this was an excellent movie and I highly recommend it - to boys and girls.

Guest Column on impact the internet has on rural communities

Nowadays, the internet has absolutely everything on it and is almost needed in today’s society. Practically everybody has access to the internet at any time of day, except for those people in rural communities. These are the people who live in the center of America, on farmland or out in the country where normal internet providers do not reach.

If you live in any rural community, and you need some sort of internet provider, I highly recommend getting satellite Internet. Satellite internet is very affordable and can be very fast and comparable to normal high-speed internet.

Benefits to Satellite Internet

Having satellite internet in your rural community will be like a blessing. In rural places in the past, it was absolutely impossible to get any kind of internet service. Now, it is very possible with satellite internet.

With satellite internet, your life could change in a small way. You will be able to do many things that you haven’t been able to in the past. Things like being able to research things much quicker and buying online. You can also keep up with the news and such. There are many other things that satellite internet can give to you.

What is Satellite Internet?

Satellite Internet is a way for people in rural communities to get internet provided to them. It can also be used for people used in suburban areas, but is more commonly used in rural areas.

Satellite internet is internet that is provided to you by satellites that orbit the earth. This type of internet can be used all over the world which makes it a great internet source to people in rural communities.

Normally, this type of internet is provided to you by a satellite out in orbit and that satellite sends a signal that goes to another satellite that is based outside of your house. This satellite is connected to a modem inside of your house and this gives you your internet service. If you wanted, you could hook up your modem to a router but this is not needed.

It is much like satellite television providers like Dish Network. It is actually almost the exact same thing except it is used for internet. Satellite television providers almost do the same exact thing because they make use of satellites out in orbit to give you your television reception.

If you do live in a rural community, I would highly recommend that you get satellite internet if you are in need of an internet provider. The use of satellite internet in rural communities has a huge amount of benefits and will be well worth it.
